Default Washer jets

Hi all,

My 2002 mondeo Zetec is acting a little strange when it comes to the washers. If I press the button for the front jets nothing happens, like no wiper action and no jet spray, but if I then use the button for the rear jet, the front jets spring into life but still no wiper action.

Could this be a faulty relay? or could the pump be faulty ?

Thanks for your help

Regards

Rhys

It could be all the things you mentioned plus the button for the front and even a poor electrical connection in the system. The system needs to be checked from the front button on to the washer pump/wiper motor assy. Better to check thoroughly before throwing parts at it.

Default Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for your time, is it easy to check the system or do I need to bite the bullet and put an electrical engineer on the case.

Will it fail an MOT as that is due in a few weeks.

Cheers again.

Regards

What may be easy for one person may be difficult for another therefore not knowing your experience level I think it would not be proper to say, "yes it's easy".
I suppose you could have a good shop check it out.
Whatever you do don't get an electrical engineer involved in it, he will redesign it !!

Thanks for your help,

I have a good knowledge base and am able to do near all the mechanics myself so I may find it simple if I know where to look.

Good tip about the electrical engineer!!

A good start would be to have and use either a test light or a voltmeter. Then start from the activating switch/button and work your way to the washer motor and confirm the voltage signal from the switch is getting to the washer motor. Also a good inspection of all the earth (ground) connections and cleaning them would help.

I have a family member who is an electrical engineer and when we ask what time it is , I get an explanation of how the watch/clock works and all I wanted was the correct time ! ( Just Kidding)

Hi,

Well I have both a test light and a volt meter so I will get on that on Tuesday.... Thank you for your time and help. Where is the relay/switch located? Behind the glovebox or in the engine bay?

Cheers

You should start right at the washer button itself.
If I am correct you have a lever that you lift to operate the washers . I believe the switch is located in that lever assy.
