I have a FORD ESCAPE.
I heard that it is 200-300$ to replace keys????? is this correct? but I read somewhere that it was only like 80$ or less I am confused. I have a back up key I made that ofcourse just opens doors etc. but does not start the car. I was thinking I can order a key blank from ebay 20bucks and a FOB 20bucks get the black cut out from the backup I made and program it from inside car. Will this work??

Also can a locksmith help me any? If anyone can give me guidance on this situation I will APPRECIATE IT, its the only vehicle right now and I am going to walk to ford in the morning for 7am PLEASE HELP.
Also what do I need to get the key made, the VIN?

The key will have to be programed. I work for a ford dealer, and we have to have the vehicle in shop, so we can hook up ids. The money u will pay will vary from shop to shop, and it generally takes about an hour to do. They would have to access ur security features with the above mentioned scan tool to get into system and ensure key will work properly. Programming the key fob is simple, put key in ignition, cycle it to run and off position 3 times, then hit lock and unlock, should work just fine. Hope this helps

Your best bet is to have the dealer straighten it out. You didn't specify what year vehicle and some change from year to year. You have the choice of having the dealer make and code extra keys or buy the blanks from the dealer and a locksmith with the info can cut and code the replacement keys. The cost for the extra keys is small compared to running around trying to get the problem of lost/misplaced keys corrected.

You must have your master key available to make any duplicates yourself.

Right now, before you lose one of your two keys... get at least one
more take it to a locksmith, get it copied for a couple bucks, then program it
into the computer yourself using the procedure in the owner's manual.
