Default 1997 Explorer Oil Pan Gasket

Has anybody been able to change the oil pan gasket without pulling the engine? Thanks

Default From what I've heard.

As far as I know, No! Good question though. Maybe there is a Ford master tech on here who has figured something out. Same goes for the timing chain. If I were going to go to that much trouble, I would check the timing chain as well.

Thanks masterdan, I originally planned to take off the timing cover due to a boken stud on the water pump. The haynes manual says you can cut the oil pan gasket and seperate the gasket and replace just the fron part of the gasket. I will send you scanned page from the manual if you desire. Send me your E mail. Mine is rgrayson5@hotmail.com
Thanks again.

ummm what kinda engine? there are 2 types for that year... is it the 5.0L or the 4.0L? and i have been able to yank the pan from my 1987 Crown Vic that is equipped with a 5.0L in it. the pan in my car is a double sump since it goes over the front crossmember. the way i did it was remove engine mount bolt on each side, lift engine, remove pan bolts, removed distributor, removed oil pump and pickup screen then get the oil pump shaft out. after that is out of the way, engine needs rotated to have bottom end(Crank) to clear the pan. also gonna take some adjusting of raising the engine to about its max tipping where rear is touching firewall.
