Default 2000 Ford Explorer XLT, 5.0L, AWD, massive grinding sound in the front end

I just installed a new front left CV axle and the problem still exists! About a week ago I was driving on the interstate when it sounded like I was running on the rumble strips when in fact I was not it was a very powerful buzzing sound but I couldn't really feel it in the steering. Pulled off the interstate to a safe place by the time I got parked it sounded like somebody was grinding metal parts face to face I mean bad. I could really use some help figuring out why it sounds like the whole front end is coming off of this explorer. I can feel the grinding sound in the steering now and I am curious if someone has experienced this. One issue I did not do was check the fluids in the front differential. Not such a smart guy. Please give me some feedback if you've experienced this and have a reasonable solution. Thanks and have a great day!!

Could the problem be with the passenger side? What made you decide to change the driver's side?

Default 2000 Explorer CV joint front end noise

Hello hanky, the reason for the driver's side was that the sound seemed to emanate from there. Might be the passenger side but I'll have to check. It's 35 miles away and without wheels it's a nightmare getting to it. I'm also inclined to remove the front differential cover and look. Could be bearings there and maybe spider gears? Ring and pinion?

Did you check the front outer wheel brgs?

Examined the bearings when installing new CV axle on the driver's side only. Sometime after the first I plan on going back to where the Explorer is. I'll do a much better job if examining once there. Ashamed that I didn't do so many aspects. Learning curve? How about just a lack of intelligence!

If you don't work with these things every day, you can't be expected to know the areas to look over and check, but it does come with experience, lol.
