2003 expedition
just finished a 1200 mile trip towing a pup-up with a 2003 expedition 4.6L EXL On the last leg of the trip we started with a rough idle, not noticeable at speeds. Engine code is p0183, indicating fuel temperature sensor, but I can't find information about this sensor for my expedition. Does this sensor exist, could it be causing the problem. Just starting the trouble shooting process.
OK, you got me. I've heard of the code, and this powertrain did use this sensor, but not in '03, I believe. I checked, and nowhere in the wiring for either engine did the fuel temp sensor show up. I'm stumped.
However, it could be a running change (I doubt it, but Ford never makes 2 of anything the same way it seems). Best way to check for this is to look on the fuel rail; it will be a sqaurish sensor with about 4 or possibly more wires going into it. It was used primarily on the Electronic returnless fuel system, but this truck should have the Mechanical returnless fuel system.
This sensor was a combo sensor that combined the fuel rail temp and pressure.
Like I said, I'm stumped. Maybe someone else out there could shed some light on this!

I have looked on Fords reopair site and Ford parts site and I can not see a sensor either. Would you mind posting the VIN? If so, we can search for the parts specific to your vehicle. All I can find is a fuel regulator or fuel dampener. There is nothing in the system that has any electrical controlled componets.
