I have a f250 that just keeps randomly shutting off while driving. I can be cruising down the road and it will just lose power steering, etc. and the truck will die. I have no idea where to start as I'm not mechanically inclined. Someone possibly said something about a bad BCM module? I was able to get the truck started again each time but it seemed like it struggled. It's a 2005 F250 super duty xlt with approximately 145k miles.
You said 2005 F250 super duty xlt but what is XLT I don't have a clue. When it comes to Ford you need to provide the engine size not the model trim. Check my signature below to see why.
Look above, OK button is not even clickable because engine is not selected, 4 possible choices.
What you can do is next time the engine die, you pull the car over, pop the hood, disconnect the electrical connector of your MAF, then restart your engine and continue your trip, you get a CEL because MAF is unplugged, you can also get rough idling, but does the engine stall again, if it doesn't, then more than likely you have a bad MAF. You plug the MAF back in the CEL should go away.
Power steering can be a different issue but irrelevant to the engine stalling. BCM module controls the lights and locks, nothing to do with engine stall.
Look at the 4 possible choice. If you have V10, either VIN S or V. S or V is the 8th character of your VIN number.
If you have V8, your truck is a diesel or not.
Then 3 possibilities now.
Here's what google says:
P0100 is most common.
When your truck is stalling while driving there are many possibilities like air, fuel, ignition system, charging system or transmission. But when you can restart it right up, then it's air, fuel or ignition. Among the 3, air is most common.
If you can't locate your MAF, I need to know your engine size in order to pull up the location diagram.
Number 10, verify if it proves out correctly (key in RUN light up, engine start goes away). If you have a scanner you need to plug it in and retrieve any possible DTCs.
You can also remove the MAF electrical connector, then start up your truck you must see the CEL or else your CEL bulb is bad.
