Stopped for gas went to leave engine won't turn over,lights come on and car also pushes forward easily even in reverse position.1995 contour 2.0 with auto trans.

 

you could have a bad starter the solenoid could have gone bad the cables may have corroded there are a whole bunch of things that could cause it not to turn over

 

won,t turn over could be a weak battery, battery terminals or the solenoid !

 

Went to work on it this morning,started right up.Drove it right to the repair shop so they could have the pleasure of working on it.Thanks for the replies to my post and hope to find out later today what caused it.

Took it into the shop and they said it was working perfect and couldn't find anything wrong with it.Been driving it 2 days now and it did the same thing once again but started right way this time.Maybe I'll see if I can pull the starter out myself this weekend and have it tested some where.Is it possible a bad ignition switch could cause this kind of problem,as sometimes the key is a little hard to remove and turn.It's a good work car when it's working right but I don't want to put too much money into it.

 

it is possible that you have a bad ignition switch they don't last forever nothing man made ever does. I don't know if that car has the rod that goes down the column or if the switch is just behind the tumbler
