Default Dealer wants to sell me extended plans

I am finalizing a deal on a 2013 Edget SEL AWD, I drive approximately 40,000km per yer.

Dealer is trying to see me on:

1. Platinum shield protection for interior ($499), exterior ($499) and the rust infibitor plug in ($799)
2. Premium care package (extended warranty) $3,200 for 150,000km
3. Ford Extenced Maintence program $2,500 for 150,000

Is anyone using these? Any suggestions.

This is just my opinion:

I like to keep control of my money. If you give the money away you lost control. A near new vehicle has factory warranty. That covers a lot of what the extended plan would cover.
Consumer goods have a "bath tub pattern" when you chart repair needs.
It starts high (manufacturing errors) then drops to a low level and increases again as the vehicle ages (wear and tear). Guess which portion the extended plan covers.

Exactly! Part one which is also covered by the factory warranty and part two when nothing much happens.

That doesn't mean nothing will happen to your car. So if you are worried sleepless then the plan may be for you.

When your done reading the fine print, which may take days, the warranties cover very little of the parts that commonly fail.

The companies that sell theses plans are out there to make money, similar to health care plans. They take in more than they pay out. Many times with these plans you will have to pay a $100 deductable each time its used.

Save your money to pay for the regular maintenance. FLUID Changes will do more to extend the life of your engine and trans. If your hard on a car and don't do maintenance this plan may be for you.

IMO Save your $7000.

The manufactures do mean time to failure studies on every part of a car. They know what the life of a part is and set the warranty well before this date.

everything is a gamble i guess
