Default drooping rear end

Hi y'all
I was wondering if anyone can suggest a solution. I own a 1996 2 door 4wd Ford Explorer, it has a single leaf spring with 4 metal type spacers, at the moment the rear droops about 2" lower than the front and during driving it seems to gets even lower. My question is do I need to change to 5 leaf spring system or will a new single leaf spring along with new shocks help level this truck.

Thanks d.rich

Im gonna guess you have alot of mileage and the springs are tired. If so then a new one leaf type spring would bring you back up into play. Easiest fix would be for a set of airbags in the back , about half the cost of springs. And shocks wont do anything to lift the truck just stabilize the spring bounce/rebound.you can pm me for some prices if you want.

take care,
Peter

I would look around the net for a decent price on a set of multi-leaf springs to replace the mono-leaf springs you have. I installed a set in my 97 Explorer Sport when I owned it. Best thing I could have done. RockAuto has them starting at $105 each for the multi-leaf springs. You may find a set on Ebay from a dealer trying to unload some old stock at a decent price. It's a lot better than paying for new mono-leafs and installing an airbag system. Pricing would be about the same. Don't forget to get a new set of U-Bolts for the springs when installing them.

Even better A multileaf would be the preferred way to go compared to monoleaf and contrary to what has been written in magazines by people who only sell springs, not make them, monoleaf springs are inherently dangerous.
But you cant beat the modern ride of airbags on the rear either. It makes for a nice ride IMHO.
If its high mileage droop-age Remember, all springs have a finite life, that is one day they will break.

Have a great day.
