Hello all, I have an 87 F-150 with a 302. I have put a lot of money in this truck and still can't find any answers. When i crank her up, she will run like a sewing machine. Once she warms up, +/- 15 minutes, it will shut down. After it shuts down, you can try all day long to crank it and it will not restart until you turn the key all the way off and only then will it crank. It will crank on the first try as long as you turn it all the way off, she'll run for about 5 minutes an the shut off again. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, ignition switch, ignition control mod., cap, plugs, rotor, wires, button, and idle air control valve. I spent $680.00 at a shop for this problem last week, and they couldn't figure it out. I sure would appreciate any help. Thanks, Chris

 

So we are on the same page, we crank the engine to get it started. Once started ,it fires up, runs goes etc.
If I understand correctly,you can get it to start, but it cuts off and only cranks over , but will not fire up and start running. If you turn the ignition switch off then go back to start it , it does start, is this correct?

 

yes, that's right, seems to shut off when it gets warm.

 

I don't know what kind of test equip you have available to use. Do you have a simple test light or multimeter to use ? Visually seeing just what is happening is the better thing to help locate the cause. We don't know at this point if it is a fuel problem or ign problem. Should be able to help determine just which one it is.

 

I will have more time to gather some stuff for this weekend. Fuel pressure Guage, voltmeter, that type of stuff. I'll let you know probably Saturday what I find out.
