Default Intro

Thanks for letting me into this forum. I've been a Ford guy for a lot of years. Two of the more interesting Fords I've had were a 1971 Cougar XR7 (351C 2V) and a 1992 Mustang LX (302/5 speed). My personal favorite Ford motor was the 351 Cleveland...may it get tooled up again w/ Aussie heads and EFI.

Anyway, I've currently got a 2003 Expedition 4X4, and was curious if anyone on the forum has any experience with cat-back exhaust systems for these SUVs. I am primarily interested in what kind of gas milege increases I might see on the highway. I've been looking at the Gibson system, but have never talked with anyone who could say whether or not it was worth it in terms of milege gains. I am likely going to end up towing a 5,000 pound trailer from California back to the midwest in about three weeks and would also like a little extra grunt getting over the mountains. I'm currently running a K&N filter, and will probably go back to synthetic oil in the next couple of weeks.

If anyone's had any experiece with the Gibson, or seen appreciable performance increases with other systems, I'd like to know.

Thanks.

Welcome to the site. As far as Gibson cat back, I am not sure what kind of mileage you would beneifit from.

Thanks for the welcome and the responses. I was looking to achieve even a 1-2 mpg increase at steady highway speeds. I went ahead and ordered a Gibson stainless side swept system the other day. I'll be busy this next weekend putting the thing on. Just looking at the size of the muffler Ford put on my truck makes me thing anything less restrictive is going to do some good. At least the vehicle will weigh less.

Thanks!
