Motor stalling in Gear
Hey Everyone
Just picked up a 1970 F250 with stock 390, but its stalling in gear or at low revs, what could this be? It was low on Transmission fluid, just added a quart but still the same, thought you lot may have had this issue?????????

Hard to say without actually looking at it, but some had an idle stop solenoid that would extend when the key was on and cause the idle speed to increase so it would not stall when put into gear and release when the key was turned off to prevent engine run on from to hi an idle speed.
Man, I thought the tranny fluid would have fixed it.
It sounds as if your carburator is out of adjustment or needs work. If you haven't done a tune up recently consisting of points, dwell set, condenser, timing, plugs, cap, rotor and a fuel filter, now would be a good time to do it. These old engines need a lot of attention every 12-15k miles.
