Default My first Ford

Hi,

Just bought a 2006 motorhome on an E350 chassis. V10 with only 27000 miles on her. But...when we turn the wheel to drive off or back up, there is a metal grinding sound. At speed everything is fine. Handles great. No leaks anywhere. I had it looked over by a motorhome repair shop and the guy there said it wasn't anything to worry about. As far as I see it, no vehicle should have noises. Should I go back to him or take it to a Ford dealer?

Glad to have this forum.

Lisa

Welcome to the site Lisa..

Is the only time it makes the noise when steering wheel is turned 'against' the stops? Turned till it won't turn anymore...

We seem to think it is either the rear brakes or the suspension. Since we have a motorhome with the weight mostly over the rear wheels, we are thinking that when you back up or slowly move forward from a stop, the weight distribution then changes and puts a sudden load on. Once you are on your way, the load is then distributed over the entire chasis and the noise goes away. We do find the brakes squeak when we stop hard, though. They were checked a few days ago by a moho mechanic and he said they were good but next pad change (10,000 miles) we should have the rotors done.
