Default New to forum - life long Fan

Hello all,
I am new to the forum but grew up around Fords. I have used the forum before and thought I would finally set up an account. Last fall my father gave me is '72 Ford 100 Explorer that he bought brand new. This summer I traded a 1948 Minneapolis Moline U for a 1947 Ford pick up (this will be my wifes pick up). Next Saturday I get to go after another toy for me - '67 Mercury Comet. With 4 kids I hope someday I will be able to give them the attention they deserve. When I can figure out how to post pics I will.

Default Wife Says 97 Ford Explorer Bucking, Engine Hesitating

I am new to the forum. My wife's 97 Explorer's engine has been hesitating for several weeks and barely made it to Walter Reed (WRAMC) last evening (DC). My wife is taking care of our wounded soldier for the last two years. So her Explorer has NOT had a lot of tender loving care lately. It sits a lot, approximately 5,000 miles per year.

They both came home this weekend for the Labor Day weekend. Instead of scheduling to put the truck in the shop for one day to determine the cause of the problem, they decided to get a facial, manicure and pedicure. Ha!

I changed oil, checked all fluids and test drove the vehicle for 30 minutes, no issues. Vehicle will be replaced soon at 188K miles. Does anyone have a list of things to check assuming I can get it back up into the Wilmington, DE area.
I have suspected fuel filter and fuel injectors.

Columbus Day in 3 weeks and another 3 day government holiday. What's the probability girls will focus on their vehicle Vs Girl things? Any help anyone can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in a advance from a military family Dad.

Welcome to the site..

Since it seems to be more intermittent (?) and you describe it as more of a hesitation I'd be suspect fuel supply. Especially given the mileage. Last filter change? Original fuel pump? Might be a good idea to put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail and monitor fuel pressure. Look for any pressure drop during a hesitation. If during a hestitation, you can add more throttle to it and it accelerates (even though rough) it may point to ignition or fuel drop. Generally if a misfire you would get a CEL. A dying pump starving fuel delivery may not..

Got your hands full

I'd love to find a 70's pickup for my 'going to town' rig. That 47 would be a blast to build!

Looks like a couple of pretty solid examples of Ford iron. Keep us posted on any progress.

Thanks for your quick reply and information. I too suspected fuel filter, last changed at 107K miles. Another wounded warrior read the engine code pointing to cylinders 3 & 5. Codes P0303 and P0305. Will pick up new wires, plugs and fuel filter....heading to WRAMC this weekend to replace all on my own unless it is drivable to PepBoys near Bethesda base. Thanks again for your help. HOOAH!
