Hi All, my son has a 1998 4x4 ranger, woke up with no reverse. After some research seems no easy fix its a 5R55E trany how difficult is it to remove ourselves and either find a used one or rebuild? Thanks for any input.

 

A lot is dependent on how determined you are , what kind of equipment you have to work with, and where you have to do it.
You have the driveline, the transfer case and then the trans to remove. It is not light!
Then you of course have the option of having a trans shop repair/rebuild it, getting a used trans (always comes with a big ???) or getting a rebuilt exchange unit. Many places will not warranty an exchange unit unless the cooler is flushed/replaced.
As you can see there is a lot to think about.
