Lightbulb searchin' for a part

afternoon all

hope i have entered the "right" place to ask questions

i have a 91 ford ranger which needs the cross member support that crosses the frame under the gas tank

local ford folks have been helpful but did not locate, there books don't show width etc.

all rangers i have checked have rust (i have). do any other newer ranger cross member fit ?

thanks all...

Should you not be able to find the cross member parts you need I have had different welding shops make a replacement and install it . It solved the availability problem and the job was better than the original . If you can't find the exact part check around and get some estimates,it's worth a shot.

that had been my first thought....that and some fish plate
your "better than the original" also struck a chord... the bendy pressed piece gives me some concern and my mechanic buddy (out with a double hernia) is reluctant to squirm under truck... the fool
but i had thought and priced some square tubing with greater load bearing properties
thanks for the encouragement

I guess square tubing would do the job. One shop used apiece of 4" X1/4 channel iron with gussets and made a beautiful x member that will for sure outlast the truck !
