Default Vibration in my Edge

My 2008 Edge has a vibration while upshifting through second gear. First is fine, no vibration, second, about halfway through the power stroke, vibrates the whole car, then it smooths out. No problem in any other gear. My first thought is a CV joint, but I thought it would probably be through the whole range of gears. Any ideas.

Thumbs down Similar problem

I have a similar problem with my 2008 Edge SEL. Only occurs when car has not been driven for several hours (overnight) and only during heavier acceleration. No warning lights, steady or otherwise. After 2 to 5 miles, problem goes away. In the shop now.

Default more on the vibration in my Edge

So, after changing CV Joints, there was a reduction of the amount of vibration and it also changed the circumstances when it would happen. Then as time went by, the vibration got steadily worse. The mechanic thought maybe there was a problem with a bushing in the transmission as it only happened in second and sometimes third gears, and he was wanting to take the transmission apart to find the problem. (read big dollars). I was pretty sure the problem wasn't in the transmission, but there wasn't anything visible. Then, one day I heard a bang and then a thumping sound under the car which disappeared when I let off the gas. It didn't come back until I stopped and stepped on the gas again, and again only in 2nd and 3rd gears. After reaching road speed the racket would disappear. Anyway, I crawled under the car and found that my driveshaft front center bearing had destroyed itself. I says to myself, this could be the source of the vibration. So, I started researching to find if I could buy a bearing for it. Not a chance, I had to buy a new driveshaft. Some genius had designed the driveshaft in three peices and instead of putting in a hanger bearing like in a truck, he stuck two of them in the center piece of the driveshaft and made it so they can't be removed or replaces. Then, Ford decides to only sell whole driveshafts instead of the center piece. Anyway, the bottom line was I paid about 1700.00 dollars to replace two forty dollar bearings. The good part is that I didn't have to pay a mechanic a lot of money to fault find and tear apart my transmission to find a vibration that was caused by the driveshaft. Beware of these driveshafts.
