Default Advice on Windshield Repair vs. Replacement?

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a small crack on my windshield, about 3 inches long, and I’m debating whether to repair or replace it. It’s not directly in my line of sight, but I’m worried it might spread. Has anyone had success with DIY repair kits, or is it better to take it to a professional?

Also, how do insurance companies usually handle this—would a claim raise my premiums?

I’d appreciate any advice or recommendations on good repair shops if replacement is the only option.

Once is enough, not 7th.
If saying "Thanks in advance for any help" is a must:
1) consider setting that as your signature
2) you can append that to your original post by clicking the edit button

You are merely wasting fordforum.com resource, it's absolutely unnecessary in such way to earn more post count.

Some shops will perform a repair to windshields including starbursts, and cracks.
If they are repaired before they travel too far your insurance would rather pay for the repair than a replacement. Best to check and make sure, though.
They have some pretty good repair people out there and after they pump the filler into the crack it is cured with a UV light and you would never know it was cracked.

It can usually take only an hour to do , but needs to be done where electrical power is available to operate the UV light.

Cracks that I've repaired, I would drill stop the crack to reduce the chance of it spreading, as well as fill the voids with acrylic.

Thank you for reminding me of the drill stop.

We had a gentleman that went to school to learn the procedure and he saved us a lot of $$.
