Default How to Safely Handle Heavy Haul with a Ford Truck?

Hi all,

I’m a newer member curious about using a Ford for heavy duty hauling. I’ve been researching heavy haul transport, including oversized trailers, heavy trailers, and major loads, and want to learn more about heavy haul in the context of a Ford pickup.

On a forum like this, I’d love to hear from others who’ve pulled heavy loads with their Ford rigs. What mods, upgrades, or packages worked for you? Did you run into issues with towing/payload ratings, trailer sway, brake performance, or licensing/permits?

Any real world tips before I commit to a heavy load build are much appreciated.

Once you purchase a P/U , the way it was spec'd is usually for the job it was intended to do.

Engine size, axle ratio, trans , suspension and wheelbase all have to be considered.
If you purchase used, those considerations are important.

To some people, a truck is a truck and that is all they know, but there is a lot more to know.
A Ford sales rep can supply a lot of the available info and can offer suggestions to obtain the best performance and longevity.

A lot of folks think if I boost the engine power that is enough, but when the driveline craps out because it was not designed to handle increased power and loads, well you know the rest.
