F100 302 engine problem Help
Trying to figure out the next step in diagnosing an engine problem I am having with my 302. The engine idles beautiful. If I steadily depress the gas pedal in neutral it revs up fine. However, when I get on the gas it bogs out. I put the pedal to the floor and foot on the brake and it has no power. I thought it was the carb. I ripped the Holley 4160 600 CFM manual choke, vaccum advance from the engine and tore it down. It was loaded with gunk probably from the ethanol in todays gas??? I got a rebuild kit to rebuild and clean the carb. I through a new Holley 4160 on the engine and fired it back up. Same problem. Fuel filter is clean, vacuum is good.
The exhaust smells like gas and its a bit smoky. Any ideas on where to head next?
Thanks,
Trip

OK checked the fuel pressure and it is 8 1/2 PSI. Holley requires 5 - 7 PSI per their installation instructions. A pressure regulator should be installed for pressures above 7 PSI per the instructions. Cn this be the problem?? Doesn't seem like it would be. I am going to call Holley tech support today to find out. Will let you know.

Did you rejet the new carb. to match the old one -and has your engine been bored? Could be transmission/torque converterproblem. Anything not stock there? Checked the trans. fluid? Does it go into gear? Is 4 barrel carb original to engine? What year 302 block? Stock heads? Stock year Ford intake? Checked the timing and rechecked firing order and rotor spin direction as it pertains to it? Adjustable rocker arms? PCV tube/breather(s) OK? Timing chain exact? Cam stock? (if miles on could be wiped out-check lift at rocker arms).
