Arrow Upgrade C4 Tranny

Hey everyone! So I might get laughed at a bit for the car but moving on, I have my 1977 Ford Granada and I was looking into the specs of it. Turns out it has the C4 Ford tranny and it's your standard 3-speed automatic. What i want to know is what kinds of other transmissions are there to upgrade from? I was hoping to find a 4 or 5-speed, auto or manual but either I don't know how to search for them or there isn't a lot out there. Anyone know if there are transmissions that i can upgrade to from the C4?

thanks!

I'm not sure on this , but some Granadas had a JATCO automatic trans. Are you sure it's a C4 ? (JATCO = Japanese auto transmission co)

if you can find one out of a early 80's t-bird with overdrive it will bolt right in. you might need to have your drive line cut to the right length so that it will fit without jamming the tail shaft of the transmission

Are you referring to the AOD transmission?

Yes, grindman is referencing the AOD transmission that replaced the C4 & C5 trannys.

Read here, it will provide additional vehicles to source one from.

Almost any standard from that time period would fit. If I remember right, they used the same one for the in line sixes and the 260/289/302 V8. You might need to get the drive shaft shortened.

that transmission was used on almost the engines as long as they were a small block even the 2.3 had that same trans. all the way up to the 5.8 windsor. if the car or truck had a big block like the cleveland 400 351 m or the 429 and 460 it had the c-6 behind it. now if it had the 352 360 390 or the 428 they usually had the fmx
