Default 4r100 pump issues

My 4r100 was leaking out the front decently bad when I towed, but not under normal driving so I pulled the tranny to do a pump seal. After inspecting a little bit I found a chip in the pump which I have no idea how it got there. The rest of the unit is in good shape. I am wondering if this chip is going to cause issues if I put a pump seal in it or not? Definitely do not want to go through all that work just for it to leak again.

If a reman, the chip may have been caused installing the bushing. The seal, will seal on the pump bore so it shouldn't be an issue.
I'd pull the front pump and do a pump gasket and or o-ring reseal. That's the only other place besides the conv. seal that a leak can be generated from..

Welcome to the site..

It looks like a screw driver or ? may have been used to get under and against the outer flange of the seal area, then on down to where the chip is.. They are in alignment. Or, possibly the seal was pierced etc.

If a reman, the chip may have been caused installing the bushing, but doubtful. The seal, will seal on the pump inner bore so it shouldn't be an issue as long as there are no gouges.

Generally, I pull the front pump and do a pump gasket and or o-ring reseal. That's the only other place besides the conv. seal that a leak can be generated from..
