Help Needed!
Hi Everyone,
This is my first post here and I could really use your help. I am running out of ideas and hope some of you could provide some advice.
I am having contuses shifting issues with my 2010 Mercury Milan which is just the Mercury version of the Ford Fusion.
My car is a 2010 Mercury Milan Premier. It has the V6 and AWD. There are currently 140,000 miles on the car.
I have been having shifting issues with it for the last 7 months. At first, the car would not want to shift on its own. It would simply jump up in RMPs but never shift. I would have to completely let up off the accelerator to give it a chance to shift and then press down on the accelerator again once the car had shifted. This was usually only an issue when the car would shift from gears 1-2 and 2-3.
I took it to the shop and under advice from the mechanic I had the transmission re-built. That seemed to fix the problem for about a week.
Now I am having a different type of shifting issue. When I am coming off a stop or about to shift up in lower gears the car will just automatically jerk violently and redline its RPMs. When this happens it feels as if I was driving a manual and just slammed on the gas without up-shifting. The only thing is that when this shifting problem happens I am never slamming on the gas or even changing the amount of pressure I am applying to the accelerator.
This normally happens in the sift from lower gears like 1-2 and 2-3. It does not happen every time but I don't know what causes it.
Then after the hard redline and rapid increase in RPM's the car jerks hard and shifts violently. After the shift, the car does not have much of any response when I press on the accelerator. It feels almost like when you try to drive a car in high gear at too low a speed. It's as if the car does not know when to shift or what gear to shift into and then just defaults to 6th gear.
I took it back to the shop as it was still under warranty from the trans-re-build. The shop had it a week and at first, they told me it was an engine problem that was causing the lack of "power" but it didn't feel like that was the case to me. It feels that the car has shifting issues which result in a bad shift and then the car defaults to a high gear for some reason which causes what they described as a "lack of power".
I had them look at it again and they told me that it needed to have the throttle body assembly replaced. I had the shop make the replacement but it did not fix the problem. So now it's been months of issues with my car. A trans-re-build and throttle body assembly replaced. Lots of time and money and the car still does not shift right.
It feels to me like a programming issue almost to me but I don't know a lot about cars. It is like the car does not know what gear to shift to and when to shift but I am not sure.
Could anyone please provide any advice? I'd like to have some idea of what is going on before I take it back to the shop to spend more time and money.
Thank you for your help.

If,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it is a programming issue, we don't know if the shop you have working on it is subscribed to the manufacturers info to update programming.
If you are not comfortable there, I would consider having a dealership look at it and provide an estimate to possibly correct the problem.
They have access to all programming and updates if any are required, plus they have the the equipment to do it.
It may cost a little more, but they should be able to fix it..
