Need FX Cruise O Matic Clutch Pack Clearance Specs
I'm rebuilding the FX small case cruise o matic in my 1964 Ford Galaxie with a 352 and I need the clearance specs for the forward and rear clutch pack assemblies. The front clutch packs measure exactly the same as the originals I took out and those looked perfect so no real concern there. Seems to be about .040"-.050" clearance. The rear clutch packs however the steels the kit came with were .020" thinner than original AND they're the dished steels like original, and because of that I was able to add another steel and another fiber clutch, making 4 fiber clutches where it had 3 originally and have .030-.035" clearance there depending on how I measure it. It air checks good and looks right. Just want to make sure, as I want to do this once only! I have the 1964 Ford service manual but it doesn't seem to list many specs for the FX cruise o matic....WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY WITH THIS THING!
The forward and rear piston seals were so hard I was able to just pull the pistons right out with my fingers. No wonder it'd bleed off pressure after idling in gear for more than 2 minutes. It wore the rear clutches pretty good but the rest of the transmission looks nearly brand new inside.
