Default 99 Windstar oil pump and oil pan problem

Hello,I have a 1999 Ford
Windstar 3.8 . that I want to change the oil pan gasket and the oil pump.
Looks like since the pump is mounted outside the pan and has 6 bolts I may have to
move the ac compressor , and bracket out of the way to get a clean shot at it. I dont like doing this in really tight spots . And the oil pan gasket is stuck
and I havent got it loose first and then probably lower the y pipe that runs under the oil pan. If you guys have any suggestions or short cuts to help me complete
this it would be appreciated . Have the Ford 99 CD and a Haines
Windstar Book , but theyre not the clearest.
Thanksin advance Carlzt

ps - the Truck is on a jack stand right now

Default RE: 99 Windstar oil pump and oil pan problem

I didn't realize they had a pump modfied to run outside the block. If you ask me that engine is a must-have. I haven't seen that since the forties or fifties. The only Ford ones I've seen were in the oil pan or the timing cover case. By the way the ones in the timing cover case are steel gears in a soft aluminum housing (case). Which wears first? - you do the math. Replacing the timing cover along with the pump gears is a good idea - especially if you have any wear marks, wide clearancesor warpage whatsoever.
