Today my daughter called me saying her husband was stuck with their 1999 Windstar LX (3.8 l engine). He was backing out of a parking space and when he put van in drive, there was a bang or similar noise, and the vehicle could not go forward. Reverse works fine but no forward motion in any gear. Had it towed to my house to avoid being towed by lot owner. Has anyone come across this situation? What might be the problem and the fix? Seems like an awful lot of Windstar/Ford transmission problems for Ford owners. Van has only 114,000 miles and has not been abused--in fact been babied. I just replaced a leaky steering rack less than 2 weeks ago and checked trans fluid and level--checked out fine. Up till now has been shifting and running sweetly. Help!
