Default Transmission Woes

Hello,

I have a 1996 Ford Aerostar 3.0l. With a A4LD transmission. When driving the transmission shifts nicely from 1-2 but when accelerating the engine revs very high before a rough shift to 3rd. Then she shifts smoothly after that.
Any ideas??

Do you plan on doing the work yourself , or taking it to a shop ? , sounds like its going to die pretty quick, you could have a clutch pack -oring has failed, an finally it goes in gear after it builds up some pressure, Also its possible that the Gov. is sticking some,,An / or a faulty valve body. If it was mine I would drop the fluid an pull the valve body an take a look at it, How many miles dp you have on the car ?? , what does the tranny oil look like an smell ? is it a very brown an smell burnt an oil very thin dripping off the stick , ??? Or is a bright Red, very lil odor, an seems to cling to the stick ????

you could also wipe the stick on a piece of nice white cloth...I use the back of my hand for convenience...and see if there are metal shavings in w/ the fluid...it'll look kinda like the lead of a pencil all crushed up...you could need a change of oil and filter for the tranny...just my opinion, it may help w/ the shifting...did for mine
