Default 1970 indicator glows

My son has a 1970 Ford Fairlane 500, 351 Cleveland 2V. He is having some electrical problems. The left dash turn indicator comes on even when not using the blinker. Some times it is bright and some times dim and some times it flickers. Some times it is fine. The other night he drove it to a school function and everthing was fine until he started it up to come home and the head lights would not come on, even though the car was running fine. He was about to leave it and get a ride, and when he tried it one more time everything worked. All of the marker lights and blinkers work. When my brother gave it to him, the car would not start. Eventually I unhooked the horn relay and it runs fine now. Obviously it has a bad ground or something, but I'm not sure where to begin looking. Any ideas?

Start with the negative battery cable where it connects to the battery. Some vehicles also had an extra ground from the battery to the sheet metal. Just look for any and all ground wires that are bolted to the sheet metal. Loosen and retighten each one. Look for any wires that may have come loose or disconnected from any terminals on the inner fenders, grille and cowl. The poor ground is what prevented the starter solenoid and headlights from working.

Also, on the indicator problem,, Move the lever up/down very slightly off center, does the light then go out?
Used to see quite a few of the older turn switches go bad that caused a problem.. Sometimes the signal wouldn't work on one side when selected, and lifting slightly on the lever would get them to come on.
