Fairlane/Falcon/Galaxie/Gran TorinoThere 1960s classics have not been forgetten, whether it is on the dragstrip or at any car show, they are still all well represented.
Will a bad balancer cause a rumble noise and vibration that you can feel like it's coming from tranny? Drove car this weekend for about 100 miles and once I got up to about 60-65 mph, I can her a humming noise and feel some vibration. Any thoughts? 63 Fairlane 260 motor.
I changed the balancer this weekend, it was pretty beat up, the rubber was cracked and missing in some areas. It did help in making the engine idle smoother and did reduce some freeway vibration I mentioned. I do still hear a slight hum so I'll check out the bearings and u joints as you advice.
Be sure to check the front wheel bearings as well.
I'll make sure to check those out when the time comes. I've been busy (not busy enough) but getting there. Have it down to bare metal and will start body work sometime this weekend. I found a few bondo areas that I think push/pull out so I don't use so much filler. My goal is to have it ready for paint by Mar-Apr 2020. I can only get to it on weekends so we'll see. I'll post up progress pics. Good week to all.
If things go the way I'm planning, paint should go on Sept/Oct, I hope. Sorry for the late reply, I have other projects, truck, motorcycle, etc so I jump around from site to site when I can.
