Default Electric to Manual Shift Transfer Case

I have a 89 Ford Bronco II with the electric shift transfer case. I have been reading that the electric shift mechanism is dependent upon a small nylon or plastic washer that eventually wears out. My questions are, (1) if I have the shift mechanism replaced how many miles can I expect it to be reliable and (2) if I have the transfer case replaced with a manual unit, are there any electrical problems that might arise due to disconnecting the wiring that originally went to the electric shifter?
