Default Driver door stuck closed

So I need help bad! The other day my driver door started not closing so my mechanic looked at it and said it was the latch assembly. So I ordered a new one and attempted to install it. I got it installed and when I shut the door to try
It, it got stuck. Now the door won't open at all from the inside or out. When I press the unlock button I hear nothing but when I press the lock button i can hear it as if it's trying to lock. The door panel is off of the door but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the latch to unlatch so that I can open my door. It's a 2000 contour btw.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I would suggest that you look as closely as you can for the connection where the door locking motor operated a rod or link. The locking section sounds like it is stuck in the partially locked position. Be careful not to bend anything . Once you can get it to the fully unlocked position , it may allow you to release the latch assy ,or at least release it from the inside with the door latch release handle.

Will give it a try tomorrow when there's plenty of light. Thanks for the suggestion!
