trans replacement
#4
I believe (which means I don't know for sure) they all have the same CD4E automatic transmission from '95 through '00. To be sure you could call a junk yard and talk to them.
If I had to replace the tranny I would stay with a donor car that has the same 8th position VIN code. "L" is for 2.5L V6 and "3" stands for the 2L I4 engine. There may also be some Z code engines which are 2L I4s as well. It is possible that they have different end gearing. But again I don't know for sure.
Find a very low mileage transmission and have it bench tested by a tranny shop before you plunge down all that money for a swap.
These transmissions are very sensitive to lack of maintenance and overheating.
In fact, I would get an estimate for the work because it takes countless hours in these cars. You may be better off buying another running car and parting your current one out.
