02 Grand Marquis won't fire
I have an 02 GM that will turn over strong, but does not fire. The car sat for about 6 weeks, but it does not get very cold here in S. Texas. I do not hear the fuel pump spin with the key on, so replaced the relay - but no help.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Just to touch all the bases, you should only hear the fuel pump run for approx 2 seconds when you first turn the key on unless the starter is cranking over the engine.
A suggestion, if you or someone else can reach under the gas tank while the starter is cranking over the engine, give it a good rap with something to jar the fuel pump inside the tank. This may be all that is required to get it to run again. The down side of this is, the fuel pump is nearing replacement and there is no kind of guarantee how long it will work, especially if it has never been replaced. If this procedure doesn't get it going let us know.

Do you have any carb and choke cleaner in a spray can available? If so, shoot one or two shots into the air intake while cranking the engine. If it starts, but quits it would suggest insufficient fuel supply to the engine. Before going any further, let me know what result you get. Did you happen to check the fuel pump fuse and the inertia switch for being tripped? Either one of those could cause the fuel pump to not operate.
Hanky,
Thanks, I spoke with my neighbor, who is a mechanic, and he offered just about what you have told me. The inertia switch is set properly and connected, and I don't think this model has a fuse - just the fuel pump relay, which I replaced.
I tried the carb cleaner trick and the engine did fire and die.
Thanks for your inputs. The new fuel pump assembly has been ordered and I will install it later this week, I hope.
