Default Need some help...Car Locked??

ok.. just wondering if anyone can help speed up the process with past insight on something like this.. my dad owns a body shop and i recently purchased a crown vic. it needed 2 front fenders so i brought it up and put it in the yard to wait to get into the shop when the guys had some down time.. well anyway one of the guys was playing around with the Vic, which we always do, and he was backing up and hit into one of our trucks.. he broke the taillight and after hearing htat he put it in park and went to check it out.. when he went to go back into the car and put it in drive it was locked.. we cant get it out of park.. i took the battery off and let the truck die out thinking maybe it needed a reset but that didnt work.. i dont see any codes or lights or anything.. just wondering if anyone has some insight.. its not a rush process so my dads guy hasnt looked at it but just figured id ask and see if anyone had a similar problem.. its a 1998 Crown Vic P71.. thanks for any input..

Check the tail lamp fuse and/or look to see if you have brake lamps..The trans shift interlock/lockout works off of the brake lamp switch.. No power to the brake lamp switch, no power to the lockout solenoid....

hey f3650,also check under the dash on the steering cloumn.follow the shifter cable all the way to the column youll see a bracket held in place with 2 torx head bolts they maybe loose and not moving the shifter cable which is a common problem with fords........also check under the car at the nutral saftey/prndl switch and make sure it is secured as well as the bracket holding the shifter cable on the trans.make sure the cable isnt resting on the exhaust either and that its in the plastic clip on the frame rail which keeps it away from the exhaust....joey
