1976 e250 - 351w - v8 - 5.1l
Hello everyone,
First off, I am totally new here and so I wanted to introduce myself. Hi, my name is Chad. That was easy. Haha. So here's the skinny. About 1.5 - 2 years ago, I bought the vehicle listed in the title above. Supposedly it only had 9k miles on it, which may or may not be true. I will say that overall it's been running very well until recently, which is why I'm here. First off, the engine is covered in black grime these days. I've had some tell me that it's maybe from an exhaust leak. But I don't think sludge is made via exhaust leaks alone. I recently adjusted the choke on my carb as I noticed I was having to press the gas to start it, but now it starts immediately and all seems okay with that. Now what I'm noticing is that when I apply gas, the entire vehicle shakes for a second until the rpms get higher. I guess what I'm looking for is for someone to please guide me on what I need to do to tune everything to get things running smoothly again. I love this vehicle, it's a little bit of a POS, but the engine is sound and it was the first step I took to getting myself off the streets. Unfortunately I'm not too sure what details I should include but I'm obviously willing to answer any questions that I can, send pictures, video, even face time if someone wants. Thanks y'all.
P.s. Carb is a motorcraft dbl 2150
Best,
Chad

First off,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,we have no idea how long this vehicle has set in place.
One of the first things that comes to mind is the carburetor float needle and seat.
If the carb was never updated to accommodate unleaded fuel, the old needle if it has a neoprene tip ,that will swell with unleaded fuel and cause poor engine performance.
I don't know where you would get parts for a vehicle that old, maybe other folks have the answer for that.
