Default correct carburetor for 76 F250

Recently purchased this '76 F250, with a 360 ohv V-8, and a Holley-remanufactured (in 2008) Motorcraft 2100 carburetor. The engine will not idle without constant attention, meaning staying on the gas pedal to keep the RPMs up a bit. The previous owner ran the truck without an air cleaner on it, and the carb appears to have been shown no love (corrosion and rust). I replaced the defective accelerator pump diaphram that was leaking gas. The choke plate does not like to close when starting the engine when cold (hot air choke). I believe the best option is to replace the carb and choke, and I have been dissatisfied with what Summit Racing Equipment recommended - a remanufactured Uremco with no documentation or support, and a new but poorly-manufactured Holley 2300. I would really like to know what carb Ford would have installed on this engine when new, and perhaps a suggestion for a correct replacement carb.

Not sure, but could be a Motorcraft 2 barrel.

Carburetors don't have to be problems. There are certain requirements for them to work properly.

Most of the time a new carburetor was required was because the person was not familiar with the way they worked , so they had no idea what was wrong or how to fix it.
If certain parts were worn and they were not available separately, yes replacement was justified..
There is a particular sequence to fine tune a new carb to the vehicle that when done right the engine would run like a clock , cold and warm.

Most times an overhaul kit came with detailed instructions that when followed exactly and adjusted in the proper sequence as instructed , there was no problem.
Every vehicle is different and some of the recommended adjustments permitted the engine to start , but some fine tuning as I call it, and the engine ran and performed just fine.

Thanks for your insight. Sorry my reply is so tardy, busy selling another vehicle. Have ordered a refurbished Holley Street Warrior carburetor, and the question was raised - does the distributor require a ported vacuum advance source? From the overall condition of things under the hood, I believe the distributor to be OEM.

This does go back a bit , and If I remember correctly they did use a vacuum advance unit, but not sure without checking, if it was manifold vacuum or throttle body vacuum.
Maybe someone has that info handy, if so, please offer it, thanks.

Was there a vacuum hose from the carb to the dist presently on the vehicle ?
