1996 E350 5.8 EFI "Small Wiring Problem"
#12
Thanks a lot for the help. I am soldering things up wire by wire right now as I identify both ends of those that pass through that area. I think there are a couple that I can not identify. One of them is a singular white/red wire that comes out of the bundle near the front of the engine and I don't think it was one that passes through. I could have sworn I took a connector off of the block that had a single wire that was eaten down to the connector, but I am not seeing it anywhere right now. Water temp gauge maybe?
Update: I found the connector. It is the water temp gauge- BUT, it is a Red/White wire, and I found where it comes out of the bundle- so the White/Red wire is still a mystery.

I suspect that this White/Red wire is the Oil Pressure Sender
Two Mystery Wires. Near Coil. Grey and Grey/Red
All Injector Connectors on, all pass through wires repaired.
Got another in the engine compartment last night.
Update on the wiring project. All Injector wires fixed, pass through wires on the tail all fixed. Just have a couple of mystery wires and a few patches to do on this portion, and then on to the main harness, which is pretty chewed up, but at least I have wires to match on most of them (I think)

Another Update: The White/Red Mystery Wire was indeed the Oil Pressure Sender. I managed to get the connector off, and you can see that the rats hung in mid air and chawed this sucker right down to the connector. I cut away part of the rubber, and I think I can solder on a new wire to the nub. Also pictured is 2 lbs (yep TWO POUNDS!) of cayenne pepper. I plan on spicing up the wire harness when I get it all together. Not sure exactly how yet, but it will probably involve a mile of tape, wire loom protector, and maybe some 3M Super 77 to tar and pepper this monster. If nothing else, it should make for some quality entertainment for the forum here...
Juss a Lil' bit of Peppa on dat dere wire majiggy. Ooooh wee! Dats Good, I Guar O Tee!
These packrats around here are downright villainous. Chewed the Oil Pressure Sender wire right off to the connector.
So now, all I have left for the actual Engine Harness is the Grey/Red - Grey mystery wires to identify.

Another update: Success! The Grey- Grey/Red Mystery Wires go to the "Air Intake Temperature Sensor". It's located on the intake manifold between runners #6 and #7. !*&$%# Rats chewed it off flush with the connector- of course. This one is going to be tricky to expose the wires.

That is the last mystery wire on the actual engine harness. I may or may not get to this today. I have a couple of auto projects going on right now. The other is painting an old Toyota Matrix, which is close to ready to prime. Been working on one till I get tired or frustrated and then going to the other. Trying to document my travails with this engine harness, hopefully it will be of use to the next poor SOB trying to deal with wiring harness damage.
Also: I found this 1996 E350 wiring schematic diagram which has a pretty good wire color layout: https://i.imgur.com/Y1OUC8L.jpg
I'll post the link instead of the pic in case there is some copyright issue, etc.
