Default 4x4 conversion

I recently got a 1978 Econoline with the 351W. It needs some work before I begin modifying it, but I was wondering what I would need to convert it to 4x4 and whether or not I should do it in the first place.

4X4 just for kicks or some good reason ?

If you have the time and $$$ you can do it..,

So I go to a technical college part time for high school and my teacher told me to convert it to 4x4 and I was just wondering if that would be something I should do i got it as a road trip vehicle but now that you mention it i don't really have a reason to convert it thank you I'm still learning i should have put more thought in to it my bad
