88 E150 fuel system

I always disconnect a lead going thru the fuel pump inertia switch. Or you can pull a fuel pump relay. Then run the vehicle till it dies. then remove the filler cap to eliminate any type of pressure in the tank. And the less fuel in the tank the better.

I believe Use Common Sense gave you good advice.
What has worked for me was, the inertia switch is located at the top of the passenger side kick panel. With the engine idling , you can bang with your hand adjacent to the inertia switch and you will hear the little ball roll off the spot. After that the engine will falter and quit running due to no fuel. when you are done and ready to start the vehicle just push down on the inertia switch button and reset it and you are ready to go.
