Default '94 E350 Branch lower radiator hose question

1994 Club Wagon E350 with the 5.8 engine.

I would like to know more about the branch lower radiator hose. Does anyone know what does it do and what is the purpose of it?

I am asking the question because the one in my truck is missing. I just have the 2"? fat hose going from the water pump to the radiator but for some reason it was by passed by the previous owners.

With this warm summer the trucks has been overheating and still can not figure out why.

I know there are many reasons as to why a truck overheats but at this point I just would like to know what does the branch lower radiator hose do?

Thank you for your input.

It may have been connected to an engine oil cooler.

And Hanky's absolutely right; that's the only thing I've ever seen the lower hose branched to.
If it's overheating, try the basics (t-stat, radiator, flow, etc.)_

After you rule out the things Greasemark suggested you might want to confirm if the water pump and fan clutch are working properly.

Thaks for replying to my post.

After going to all possible things(head gasket, thermostat, water pump, radiator, rusty ,rusty antifreeze, etc) that may cause a car to overheat my mechanic,I think, finally figure out why truck was overheating.

My curb idle speed was two high(2k rpm) due to a bad TPS.
High rpms were interfering with the way the clutch fan works,no to mention the high RPMS were making my engine working harder that it needed to and in the hot summer days is not good news for an engine.

He replaced the TPS and my truck is a new truck. No overheating and very smooth shifting
Which it was lacking before.

And yes,.that lower radiator hose that i was wondering goes in fact to the oil cooler. My mechanic said I will not need it hook up unless I do steady towing which I never do so I left it alone.
