Angry '97 Econoline E350 Buzzer Won't Stop When Headlights On

Howdy all,

Months ago, this issues started where when I had my headlights on there would be a buzzer that would stay on so long as the lights were on. At first it was intermittent, but then it was all the time. If I dialed the **** to brighten or dim my dashboard lights, the volume of the buzzer would get louder or more quiet, but would never turn off. At some point, the spring in the old headlight switch gave out, so the buzzer stopped, but I had no dash lights when my headlights were on. Given that it's dark at 4:00am when I drive to work, I finally caved and replaced the light switch so I can see my dash. When I replaced the switch, I checked to see that all the connectors and the housing looked fine, no loose or broken wires, no burn marks, so that's all gravy.

That being said, I'm now back to the original problem. When I turn my headlights on, that buzzer stays on (and I want to tear my ears off) and I can slightly adjust the volume when I turn the **** to dim/brighten the dash. Also, when my normal headlights are on, the brights indicator comes on, but when I turn my brights on, it goes away. The lights themselves work just fine. I don't have any seat belt or airbag indicators that come on while running, the door buzzer works normal, and my ignition feels fine and works like normal. I cannot find anything that really points to the this same problem when I look it up. Some places say the door jamb switches, some say wiring with the ignition in the steering column, some say replace the highlight switch (which I just did because it actually was broken) - I'm going crazy with this stupid buzzer going off constantly when I have to drive with my headlights on. Anyone ever come across this?

Thanks in advance!

I would suspect there is a poor ground for the dash lamps. The lamps are using the buzzer for a ground path. You may need to remove the dash and verify a good ground for the the lamps..
