Door Chime active without key in ignition on 2015 E350
Ford 2015 E 350 Chassis for MotorHome, the door chime comes on every time the drivers door is open without a key in the ignition. Trying to identify the problem. Appreciate the help.... Thanks
so, my 2019 f50 is dong this as well. when i pull the key out of the ignition and open the door, the bells start a ring'n as if the key is still in the ignition.... what i was able to find is that the ignition swith will stick and there is a toggle switch that does not "click" and put the ignition back to an off position. to fix this, i have been pushing the face of the ignition with my finger and you will hear a click that engages that switch somwhere inside. i have been told that if you lubricate the switch, it will work properly... i will be doing that this week. i am also getting weird instrument readings like "dimming" or windshield wiper fluid is low warnings and my back up screen not showing...not sure if this is related to the ignition switch or not..
It's called ignition lock cylinder, not ignition switch, that's having contact to the steering wheel column when your key is out.
Please note that on steering wheel column all the metal parts are grounded to chassis. When key is inserted there is a linkage (could be a wire or a metal pin on 2019) that's in contact and touching the steering wheel column to get ground signal. When key is pulled the linkage should be broken but that's not the case on yours and it's the ground signal that triggers the chime.
You will need to remove the steering column shrouds (upper and lower) to get to that linkage to see why it's touching your steering wheel column when key is pulled. While you are at it use "dry lube" (always safer) to lubricate between your ignition lock cylinder. If you found the chime to be too annoying it's not uncommon to just remove that linkage so it loses ground signal permanently. I wouldn't do that on a 2019 that's considered a new truck still.
MOTORCRAFT SW7905 shown above. If the lock cylinder is bad you need to buy SW7905 (verify if it's the correct one) and swap everything over, or without buying, just remove your ignition lock cylinder and do some major cleaning and lubrication using dry lube, on the bench.
Your instrument panel and wiper fluid are something unrelated to the ignition lock cylinder. You will need a capable scanner like Foxwell NT510 Elite to retrieve the ford's specific DTC, you can also use the same scanner to reset it, if you think it's just a software glitch.
