Default E-150 Vent Selector

Greetings,

Yesterday, when I started the van, with the A/C on, I noticed the air was coming out of the defrost and floor outlets. Nothing was coming out of the dashboard vents. The dashboard selector has no control over where the air comes out. The fan is working great. I just cannot get the A/C air to come out of the dashboard vents. I checked the fuses and all were OK. Oh, when I turn the selector to OFF, that position does work.

Any ideas on why the vent selector would stop controlling the air path?

Thanks, Ken

Its all vacum controlled, look for a broken hose under the hood or dash. These are small, hard plastic hoses, on some cars the cruise control will quit working too.

Thanks for the info on the Vacuum leak. I just spent about 45 minutes under the hood, dash and engine cowling, but was not successful. It is really tight in there and I just could not locate anything I could positively say was a vacuum line. I thought I could hear a vacuum sucking noise, but there was so much engine noise that I could not be certain what I was hearing. Are you aware of any manuals, or other documentation, that would identify the vacuum lines on 2000 Ford E-150?

Thanks, Ken

Cant help you there Ken. You could always use the old carb cleaner method, just spray some on and around the hoses and intake and if your idle increases then you've found the bad hose. Starting fliud works too.

Well, I have not found the vacuum leak yet, but I did discover something. When I looked under the hood, I found animal droppings all over the place. At first I did not realize what they were. Later, when I was using a trouble light, I found nesting material in several different places, like the area where the shock absorber is fastened to the body. I did not think too much of it until someone told me that there was an article in the local paper that said there was a big increase in the number of lizards (large ones) in the county. It also mentioned that they will live in engine compartments. Hmmm, I am not sure what it is that made its home in my engine compartment, but I bet there is a good chance it did something to cause the vacuum leak...
