EGR Valve '96 e250
Any tips on pulling that out? I can't get anything to the bolt on the exhaust manifold. I need to clean it out. I think the carbon build up is making my engine studder and die when coasting to a stop.
Its a v8 5.8L automatic.
These are the codes I got:
o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1
pw sensor bank 2 sensor 2
EGR flow insufficient
DPFE monitor low voltage

They didn't give me code numbers at advance auto. They gave me that list from their reader. I did replace the dpfe and saw that the ref line is completly clogged. I think that the computer thinks that the engine can handle more exhaust which is leaning out my mixture making my engine shudder and die as we coast to a stop. I tried scraping out what I could and sraying carb cleaner into the vacume line but it hasn't helped. I need to get to the rest of the egr setup but I can't get a wrench to the big pipe that goes into the exhaust manifold.
What I believe is happening is, the EGR Valve is stuck open because of accumulated carbon. Sometimes a temporary solution of tapping on the valve will dislodge the carbon and allow the valve to close. That may give you some time to obtain the tools you need to clean it out or replace it if necessary.
I went through all the fixes for almost year to figure out the same problems. Garages had no clue why its not fixed. I did all work myself after that and came across a TSB and had to get the computer updated. Only ford did it and its been 4 years no problems. @ $80 to be hooked to the computer At Ford
