Default Engine Gets LOUD if gas is hit too soon after ignition: E-150 2005

Hello,

I'm curious to see if someone here could take a stab at what's going on with a 2005 e-150, approximately 150,000 miles.

Basically, the van drives very well and typically has no issues to speak of. However, on 3 occasions now, the engine/exhaust has suddenly become very loud, presumably because I have hit the gas too soon after starting up the engine. (This was unintentional. I'm not a wild driver.) The van will then remain in this LOUD state for maybe a week, and then the loudness disappears. The van drives almost as well as it does normally in this state, but has a little less pick-up. The last time this situation occurred, the problem abruptly ceased when I had to bring the van to a sudden stop at a traffic light. On this occasion the problem only lasted for about 3 hours.

Is there something being caused by momentum here? Meaning, could it be caused when the van moves forward too quickly? Likewise, is it only stopped when the van comes to an abrupt halt? Is there a flap or hatch somewhere which could be popping open, back and forth, due to sudden movement?

Does this sound like the result of something else, specifically? Do you have another idea of what would cause this behavior?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Have you had anyone look under the vehicle and check the flange where the exhaust pipe is connected to the manifold? The exhaust (front section) is able to allow engine movement while still maintaining a good fit between the pipe flange and the exhaust manifold. If for some reason the fit is not sealed, it might be why you hear the noise you describe.. Other than actually looking under the vehicle , the rest is speculation at best.
Condition of motor mounts ?

Hi there. And thank you for your input. I have taken a quick look underneath, but wasn't able to get the greatest view. I haven't had a mechanic search for the issue yet. But was considering it. However, what you've described makes sense, and definitely fits within my expectations of what might be happening here. So, I think I'll take your suggestion and check on this first. Much appreciated.
