Default Old Fuel In Tanks - How to Bypass Fuel Relay

Hello,
I have a 1990 Ford Econoline E250 with a 5.8 V8 engine. It has been sitting for approximately 8 years and I need to remove the fuel from the dual tanks. I read in the past about attaching a hose to the fuel rail and bypassing a fuel switch/mechanism to activate the pump. This would allow me to pump the fuel directly from the tanks, out of the hose, and into a gas can.

Does anyone know the process to turn the fuel pump on continuously without the vehicle being on? Both the fuel filter and pump, and probably fuel regulator will be replaced.

Thank you,

If there is not a lot of fuel in either tank, it can be dropped and will need to be cleaned out anyway.
There is a connection on the diagnostic plug that when grounded with the key on will activate the fuel pump relay.

Looking at the plug, set it so the outside terminal holes look like a hat and ground the right hand most terminal with the key on ..

Crazy things happen, so be extremely careful when pumping fuel out to any container. And remember contact with fuel and your skin on your hands is not good for you or your hands. Smart folks use protective gloves.

Thanks Hanky,

I'm going to try and find an image of the diagnostic plug online. I want to make sure I don't go grounding the wrong terminal. Would that be the same as the OBD test port location?

Is this the diagnostic port and have I circled the correct pin?

I used to go to our local lakes and fuel wasn't always available.
I used a fuel pressure test hose (screw on schader adapter/fitting with a quick release) and length of hose to be well clear of the engine compartment. I'd fill 5 gallon gas cans when needed.

Thank you hanky and Hayapower. I was thinking the same in regards to the fitting type. I also found these barbs that would allow for a fuel line to be attached and direct the fuel away further than the fuel pressure hose alone. With any luck I'll be able to extract the majority of the eight year old fuel sitting in the tanks.
