Default vans to slow, needs MORE POWER!

so this may sound dumb but i have a 2004 ford E-150 with a 4.6. its big and slow, very slow. now i havent really seen many people do anything with these things to make them faster. Ive always wanted to make a sleeper and thought this may be the perfect opportunity. now what i need to know what am i gunna run into for finding parts ? i have the same size motor as some of the mustangs out there right soo should i just look for parts for a 4.6 mustang? ( sorry im a newbie )

A lot depends on just how slow it really is.
Some of the causes could be a faulty torque converter, plugged catalytic converter ,incorrect spark plugs, throttle linkage , knock sensor cutting back timing etc. Many times sensors are borderline and do not cause a code to be thrown, so as you can see there are many things you can investigate for possible problems.
You are trying to move a lot of wind with the box and even that has some bearing on just how fast it will take off.

I forgot to list what is the van carrying.
