Default Driving thru water

Drove about a hundred yards thru a flooded street
2016 Ford Edge AWD manual page 407 Change axle fluid anytime an axle is submerged in water
What is this referring to? Transmission fluid? Rear differential oil?

Smartest thing is , don't drive thru high water.
Next is to drain and refill both trans and differential assys if you went thru deep water.

When we drive through cold water , it cools the trans and differential and that creates a vacuum inside the units . Those units have vents that will suck in water while cooling the unit. Not a smart thing to to if it can be avoided.

If you drove through salt water, you better act promptly with complete fluid changes.

What a lot of folks are not aware of, salt water contacting copper wires with any kind of voltage potential turns the copper into powder and now it has to be replaced.

That is why buying any vehicle that has been submerged in saltwater is not smart. Be aware of a deal too good to pass up on some vehicles.

I had to replace all the wiring on a former supervisor's boat every time it sunk at the dock. Unless you see what it can do you would not believe the damage it does.
