You guys aren't saying anything new. The clunking my car did would actually be nerve wrecking....waiting for my car to clunk between gears...usually when I was leaving a parking area. I had my 2007 Ford Edge at the dealership so often I could see the look on the peoples faces just driving in. They did NOT believe me that my car acted as if something was "HIT" in the road...usually upon leaving my driveway onto the highway. I was so insistant, they ordered some recording device that hooks up to the transmission into the car, and when that "clunking" happened, I was to push a button and it would "RECORD" the transmission from the previous 30 seconds for the next minute or so. Upon doing this, one serviceman told me there was something definitely going on....and EVENTUALLY they tore the transmission apart...but this was several months of going back and forth. They supposedly fixed this situation, but left the recording device on just in case for 2 weeks. I only needed 2 days, and the clunking happened again. This time when I went to record it, the recording device broke. Brought it to service AGAIN, they had to send the recorder out to be serviced. Then, when they got it back (over 6 weeks later), hooked it back up....I recorded the clunk again. This time one serviceman told me yes, somethings going on....the other told me the recorder didn't show anything. Then they told me it was out of warranty. It was a HUGE hassle the dealership was completely unwilling to accomodate us. I even called FORD in the beginning of this problem, and they tried to help out....but closed my case after the took my transmission apart. I called FORD to tell them it wasn't working ... and ford would no longer talk to me about this issue - calling it closed. CLOSED? Are you kidding me? It's still broken - and never was fixed. The Dealership didn't car, nor did FORD. We were just one customer to them....so I am doing all I can to spread the word about how little FORD really cares about their customers.

p.s. I couldn't take the stress anymore, so after fighting with my dealership and lack of interest from Ford, I got rid of the car and bought a Chevy Equinox. I love the new car......but I still worry that it's going to CLUNK!!!!!

It will! My best friend has one. He told me he had the same problems plus all the little things broke on it from the visor clips to mirrors. Good luck with the "Knox"!

Default 2007 edge tranny

My Edge has been back several times. Same old game, they cant find a thing wrong. I have had banging, non shifting, and a bad seal happen so far. It now has 34,200 miles on it. I only have one more shot to get it fixed! God knows, I can't sell it like this. THIS IS NOT OVER YET ! !

Default 2nd problem-worse than 1st

The first time I had the Edge towed because it would not move out of 1st gear-I was told that the computer saw nothing and the car was fine.
Last night, it started the same thing. Only this time I lost the speedometer, odometer, it banged/clunked into different gears, and 3 idiot lights came on. Limped it back home. Having it towed again today. We'll see if anything shows up this time. I have 7 mos left on the lease. I think I'll ask Ford to call it even and go get another car.

What was the fix? what did the dealer do to the transmission that solved the problem?
I am thinking of a Ford 2010 Edge but not 1 post here mentioned if the problems are consistent with AWD or FWD transmissions? So to me all the posts are useless. So posters please include what you have AWD or FWD.
Thanks..

Default Couldn't recreate the problem

The first time I had it in, they kept it for 3 days and could not recreate the problem. When it finally "broke" I had it towed again. The service dept was great. Apologized that they could not find the issue previously. They had 3 of the part I needed in stock-said it must be a common problem. Got me a rental, fixed the car in 2 days. It's running fine. They double checked the trans fluid for metal filings-found none. Said that was a good sign. I received excellent service.

Angry 2010 Edge AWD transmission problems

I have a 2010 AWD Edge, it has 9000 miles on it. Had a hard clunking, I mean it felt like the tranny was falling to the ground, when put into drive after being in reverse and slipped a few of times while driving it. Took it in and they tested it and said the TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR was bad. It took about ten days to get part in, but had a loaner. Put the new part in and serviced transmission. One day went by and the same problem started occurring again. Took it back and had the tech sit in the car while I reproduced the problem. Sure enough it did it and they took the car again, another loaner. They had it for about 3 days and 150 miles later and could not reproduce the problem again. They told they cold not do anything and gave the car back. It is now about 4 days later and it is doing it again only this time it is slipping while driving. rpm's racing to about 4500 after slowing down and accelerating again. Hard downshifting. I am documenting everything and will expect answers soon. Service rep says he can't do anything unless the computer registers it or it breaks. Will keep you posted

Default 2008 Mercury Sable transmission slippage problem

I had the same occasional transmission events since I bought my Sable new in January 2008. When coasting at a low speed and then engaging the accelerator, a violent thud and sudden lurch of the car would sometimes nearly stop the car and throw me into the steering column. Like others, I would think either someone had rear-ended me, or I had hit a rock or the transmission had fallen out of the car. Only one time in the 12 or so times this event occured over the last 2 1/2 yrs did the on board computer register an event. I probably took it into Ford 4 times for the same complaint and the response was always "we addjusted the sensors" or just a generic "couldn't recreate, adjusted". Last weekend, I was driving at 70mph and every warning light on the dashboard went off simultaeously (low fuel, tire pressure, etc, etc) and the spreedometer went to 0, the odometer blanked out and we continued traveling at 50 mph for the next 3 miles to where we could stop. After turning the car off, the car turned on hard, but ran, but shifted hard into drive and was completely unresponsive to the accelerator. Had to tow to Ford and of course the transmission was shot - quoted $4500 to replace. I threw up the legacy problem and Ford responded with a deal of $500 to me to replace transmission. They are now breaking the entire car down to determine what caused the malfunction. I'm sure they know. After reading all the posts all over the internet on various Ford models with similar problems, I think they are just trying to avoid a very expensive recall of several models. I suspect this isn't just limited to Ford either.
