Edge Transmission Problems
Like many others I started having trans problems.
Driving at slow speeds thru parking lots Taurus could not find the proper gear to engage in, which would cause the notorious bump or bang.
When driving at higher speeds approx. 55mph and applying hard braking to about 15 to 20 mph then accelerating the trans would bang so hard you would think the tranny fell out.
Went to Arlington heights ford service dept.
They replaced the valve body, and this seems to have fixed the problem.
If the problem reoccurs I will post info.

Maybe this will help others with tranny issues...TSB

personally I like the Edge much better. My Equinox had problems since the day I bought it.
Loving the Edge. So far she has 500 miles on her. Hopefully I won't have the transmission bug most speak of
So glad I found this forum. I am so upset with the situation with my '08 Ford Edge. I have been a Ford customer for many years. I have loved their products and would never purchase anything else! Enter this '08 Edge.
I am having the same problems that everyone else on this site is experiencing. In addition to getting a traffic ticket for the car accelerating rapidly, I was scared to death of the ride! My issue began with the RPM's going from 0 to 3 or 4 RPM's all on its own! The car was only at about 8,000 miles at this point.
As it continued, I kept pestering my husband to get the vehicle to the mechanic! My husband did take the vehicle to our mechanic because he thought it must need a tune up in order to stop this issue. We were told that it was too soon for a tune up. These new cars do not need tune ups so early on. It couldn't be that.
Then, along with the RPM issue, the screeching sound started each time I drove the car for a longer period of time. First, I thought it was the mph that I was traveling. However, the screeching and RPM issues began to happen with local, in town driving, at lower speeds, as well. Then, I thought it may be the distance I was traveling all in a given time. But, then I noticed that it all was happening whether I traveled for minutes or hours in a day. So, I did not know what to think.
Back to the mechanic the car went. This time to see if the brakes were doing the screeching. Nothing! The mechanic said the brakes were fine. We only got an oil change at that time.
Again, the screeching and RPM issue continued. We took the vehicle back to the mechanic and insisted the brakes be looked at. This time the brakes were taken completely apart and it was found that they were perfectly fine. He couldn't account for the screeching. As for the RPM issue, he felt it may be the way I accelerated when driving. Still, both issues continued!
The next trip to the mechanic, again rendered no satisfactory result. My husband suggested we look to take it to a dealership. Suddenly, I found this forum and now I know we need to go to the dealership. The only concern I have is that nothing will be done to fix this!!! I see no satisfactory results thus far on the site. I will have to keep all posted here as to what occurs!

I have a 2007 Ford Edge, currently at 66k miles. I had my first problem with the transmission just before my 60k mile factory warranty expired. Took the car to the dealership explained the issue: car would shift while driving, it was so hard it felt you got rear ended. The wrench light would come on and when I would try to excellerate the car wouldn't move. And there was also a high pitch whine when in reverse. The dealership came back with the usual " cant find anything wrong". After doing some research ourselves online we suggested to them to check the transmission turbine sensor, which they did and they replaced it. The car ran fine for 8 months and now I am in the same situation and I no longer am under warranty. Do dealerships warranty the work they do? After reading so many comments regarding the same issue I dont understand why there has not been a recall on this matter.
I have a 2008 Ford Edge, currently at 60k miles. I purchased it used and of course it was the Ford certified. I think I had it a month and the the tranny would 'slip' when I am going 40-60 mph down the road. I took it in and they said they reprogrammed something - no charge! A month or two go by and same thing.... I sort of ignored it for a few weeks then all of a sudden driving 65mph down the road and the car goes limp. RPMs would go up but car would not go. I made my way to the shoulder attempted to switch from park to drive to park to reverse... same thing. RPMs, but no go. Of course after I call AAA I turn the car off and when I turned it back on and I was back in bushiness (the car moved). Of course I felt like an idiot. Took it in to the dealership the next day, they had it for a week and did some "stuff". I have the Ford Premium Extended Warranty (thankfully). But that was a month ago and guess what is happening AGAIN....

Another Edge here with tranny problems. A month ago it refused to accelerate and would pitch forward like I got rear-ended. I turned the car on and off twice and it was fine after. The service techs couldn't recreate the problem the next morning but they said they regprogrammed the chip. Now the same thing happened but much worse, and it did not correct itself like it did last time. So it's in the shop now and the service dept just told me that "It will likely be covered under the [premium] warranty, but there is a chance you'll have to pay $800." The guy I sopke to couldn't give me any rationale as to why I'd have to pay nor what the difference in circumstances would be to determine out-of-pocket cost. Any thoughts?
ETA: I have a 2007 Edge SEL with 71,000 miles. My whole family and I have only ever had Fords and have never had problems.

Ok so I bought a Ford Edge (2007) with approx 44,000 miles... When I hit around 50,000 I started to feel like this huge jolt (like someone hit me) I took it to ford and they could not find anything wrong.. I got the fluid changed. At about 65,000 I felt the same thing less of a jolt.. It was not there all the time but sometimes I felt it.. At 97,000 miles, The transmission was acting really weird, RPM's went crazy, and I was not even pressing gas. Could only go about 20-40 miles/hr with RPM's at 3000. Had it towed to ford..With end result NEW TRANSMISSION $3800. I called around to find a better price, but Ford is the only one that can program the transmission was what I was told. Anyway the 6F50 transmission unit (I believe) should be recalled, from all the complaints I see.
